Televisiekijkers keken vrijdagavond vreemd naar de wedstrijdklok, hun eigen klok of horloge. Bij het EK-duel tussen Kroatië en Tsjechië (1-1) in groep D deed de Spaanse arbiter Carlos del Cerro Grande wel iets heel merkwaardigs!
Ondanks dat de 45-jarige arbiter liefst 3 minuten blessuretijd bijtelde, was hij er kennelijk al veel eerder klaar mee. Terwijl de 3e minuut van de extra tijd net in was gegaan, blies hij op zijn fluitje. Wedstrijd afgelopen, niks blessuretijd.
Te vroeg affluiten
Op het veld leek niemand het op te vallen. In de NOS-studio was dat wel anders. "Die fluit te vroeg af, toch?", zei analist Leonne Stentler. "Die scheids heeft er geen zin meer in." Het vroege blazen was ook genoeg social media-gebruikers opgevallen.

@UEFAcom Croatia v Czech. = Worse game I've seen - worse referee, worse tactics, worse teams. The ref blows for full time when there was AT LEAST 20 sec. left of added time, + a pen & booking even though the 2 of them raised their arms to jump, Croatia deserve to go out
