W-w-w-wauw! Darter Joe Cullen staat in de halve finale van de World Matchplay. 'The RockStar' won donderdagavond op zinderende wijze in Blackpool zijn kwartfinale van Daryl 'Superchin' Gurney: 16-11!
In de Winter Gardens was het de 37-jarige Gurney die nog niet helemaal wakker was: bij de 1e pauze keek hij lijdzaam toe hoe de 3 jaar jongere Cullen een 5-0 (!) voorsprong had. Na de 1e pauze brandde het potje dan ook los in een waar dartsduel.

Stuivertje wisselen
Gurney probeerde koste wat het kost qua legs in de buurt van Cullen te komen en beide heren dreven elkaar dan ook met spectaculaire finishes tot het uiterste. Daar waar Gurney hoopte op een slippertje van zijn opponent, moest Cullen zijn vroeg genomen voorsprong zien te bewaken.
Cullen, die al heel de wedstrijd met 180'ers smeet alsof het niets was, verzekerde zich met 2 perfecte 13-darters op hét perfecte moment in de slotfase voor het eerst in zijn loopbaan van de WM-halve finales.
