In Engeland wordt lang niet overal met geld gestrooid, dat blijkt we bij Leyton Orient. Daar is de crisis compleet nu de eigenaar weigert de salarissen van de spelers en stafleden te betalen. De niet populaire Francesco Becchetti zou hen al met 2 deadlines hebben geflashed.
Het team uit het oosten van Londen staat al sinds de start van de competitie troosteloos onderaan en dreigt voor het eerst in hun 112-jarig bestaan uit de Football League te degraderen. Becchetti had de selectie en de stafleden afgelopen vrijdag moeten betalen, maar liet dit volgens Sky Sports na.

Daarbij beloofde de Italiaan dat hij de betaling woensdag zou voltrekken, maar ook dat is niet gelukt. Werkweigering zit er voor hen niet in, aangezien dat tegen de contractuele afspraken is. Leyton Orient staat 9 punten achter op plek 21, wat handhaving zou betekenen.

Het noodlijdende Orient heeft geen cent te makken en dat dreigt ze letterlijk de kop te kosten. Een anonieme medewerker binnen de club meldt dat het alarmfase 1 is op de werkvloer van de aloude club. "Deze situatie is schandalig en moet onderzocht worden. We zitten in de hoek waar de klappen vallen en kunnen zelf nergens heen."
